The Xbox One had one of the most troubled launches in gaming history. Microsoft's original vision — an always-online, Kinect-mandatory, used-games-restricted console — was met with intense consumer backlash at E3 2013. Sony famously trolled them with a 'how to share games' video showing two people handing a disc to each other. Microsoft reversed nearly every controversial policy before launch, but the damage was done. The PS4 outsold it roughly 2:1 globally. Despite this, the Xbox One ecosystem delivered excellent multiplayer games and eventually pioneered Xbox Game Pass.
